163,152. Fenby, E. B. Feb. 25, 1920. Packeting by wrapping-up. - In machines for packeting powders &c., a web e is fed from a roll a by rollers c and feedsectors d on to a plate r with a deflector s. Ridges on the sectors d cooperate with grooves in the rollers c so that the web is scored parallel to its edges. The web is severed by a blade h and the charge is placed on the strip above the gap t. Grippers l clip over the edges of the wrapper and an inclined folding-blade v, Figs. 2 and 5, moves to the right and folds the free end over the powder. A folding-roller 2 on a spring-urged lever 3 rises to the position shown in Fig. 7 and makes a transverse fold. The roller 2 retires and the blade v is retracted slightly, the grippers m and blade v then carry the packet to the right so that the roller 2, on returning, makes a second transverse fold. An ejector 9 then descends and forces the packet into a curved shoot u, folding up the ends. When a projection 13 on the ejector strikes against the top of the shoot, the ejector is turned through a right angle and forces the packet past spring-urged retaining pieces 17 which press the end folds down on the rear of the packet. On the upward stroke of the ejector, the projection 13 is arrested by a bar 14 and turns the ejector into its initial horizontal position.
