Abstract

Fixing by self-grip sockets and tangs; hollow handles. - Metal shovels, spades, forks, &c. are fitted to hollow metal handles by means of a metal socket f, which is secured to the handle and is formed with a tapering opening f<2> adapted to receive a tapered tang a<1> on the tool. To prevent rotation of the tool and to enable it to be assembled in correct position, the tang a' is formed with a flattened end-portion a<3>, and the socket is fitted with inwardly-projecting lugs f<3> which engage the sides of this flat portion.
