Shuttle boxes; lays; picking-sticks and connections.-The lay of a multiple shuttle-box loom is adapted to receive a multiple shuttle box or a plain loom shuttle box, the boxes being interchangeable. Fig. 2 shows a lav a provided with multiple shuttle boxes c slidable in a metal frame b, an horizontal picker d, a picker spindle e, and a picking-stick f. The lay is converted for plain weaving by removing the shuttle boxes c, the picker, and its spindle and substituting the parts shown in Figs. 5 and 6, which form an ordinary plain loom shuttle box and comprise a plate g secured to the lay a and carrying the back h and a wood bar o. The back h, secured to the plate by angle-pieces i, carries a guiding-strip p, and has a slot for the swell j. The plate g is secured by angle-pieces l<1> to a wooden strip l which is secured to the lay by bolts m. The ordinary leather picker q rests on the plate g, which is slotted at g<2> for the picking-stick f, the bracket r, Fig. 3, to which the picking-stick is pivoted being turned into the position shown in dotted lines to allow the stick to lie nearer the back of the snuttle box than is the case when the multiple shuttle box arrangement shown in Fig. 2 is used.
