Abstract

161,627. White, A. E., (McKiernan-Terry Drill Co.). Dec. 12, 1919. Jacks.-Comprises a screw-jack in which the pillar 13 on which the nut 16 rests is made from cylindrical tubing flattened throughout its length to form a guide for the sliding sleeve 18, the lower end of which is flattened at 19 to engage the flats of the pillar. The pillar is reinforced by a cylindrical inner sleeve 32 on which also the nut 16 rests. The base-block 10 is recessed to receive the pillar which is welded to the base at 14. The lifting-screw 20 is connected to the sliding sleeve 18 through a thrust-bearing 22 and the lifting-head 21, and is rotated by a shaft 25 and worm-gear 23. A lifting-foot 33 engaging the cylindrical and flat part of the sleeve 18 is welded thereto. The upward movement of the sleeve 18 is limited by the engagement of a sloping surface 48 thereon with a corresponding surface 49 on the nut.
