Abstract

161,342. Alcock, J. Jan. 24, 1920. Candle-holders.-Candlesticks or caudle holders are provided with means for consuming waste wax, fat, candle droppings &c., waste wax-vesta stalks or ends of tapers 'being used as wicks. A support b, Fig. 1, fitting in the candlestick socket or spring- clip candle holder carries a detachable earthenware or metal plate c having a central perforation in which a waste wax-vesta stalk e is inserted. The lower end of the vesta stalk is splayed outwards underneath the plate. Waste wax &c. is placed on the plate c around the stalk. On igniting the stalk, the waste wax melts and runs into a cavity b<2> in the support b from which the wick is fed. If necessary, colza oil &c. may be used to feed the wick until sufficient wax is obtained. The wick-holding plate c may be fluted, slotted or perforated as at f<1> to direct the melted wax or oil. According to the Provisional Specification, the candlestick may consist of a shallow receptacle having an upstanding central portion dished at the top to form an oil receptacle, and the wick-holding plate is arranged over the oilreceptacle. The device may be used for burning night-lights placed in the recess x or resting on the plate C, which may be provided with spikes. In a modification, the wax-vesta stalk is supported by a coiled wire. Fig. 9 shows a form for traveller's use in which a receptacle b carrying the wick-holding plate c is of shallow formation and is provided with a cover k. The cover k may be secured to the receptacle b by pin and keyhole slot connections. Fig. 10 shows the device constructed in the form of a miniature bedwarmer which may be hung up as an ornament when not being used for lighting purposes. The cover k in this form is hinged to the receptacle b, and as in the form shown in Fig. 9 may be used as an extinguisher.
