Interconnecting protector with starting-gear.- In a dough or like mixing-machine, the starting- gear is connected with the cover fastening in such manner that the cover is locked while the machine is running and the machine cannot be started until the cover is closed. The sleeve e of the clutch for connecting the pulleys to the shaft g has keys f engaging the shaft g and carrying a grooved collar h. Trunnions on a pivoted lever l engage this collar, the upper end of the lever being formed as a cam surface with a central depression to engage a bowl on a lever n. The fore end of the lever n is connected to a crank-pin p on a plate q coupled to a grooved collar r mounted on a pin. An inclined slot t in the collar r engages a fixed pin, so that rotary move. ment of the plate q, due to the action of the cam surfaces on the lever when operated, is converted into a longitudinal movement of the collar r which serves to move a locking-lever s, the end of which is adapted to engage a notch or slot in the catch w of the mixing-chamber cover. When the cover is open, a spring plunger x prevents the movement of the lever s into engagement with the catch and consequently prevents the movement of the clutch to start the machine. Upon closing the cover, the plunger x is forced back, and the lever s enters the slot and locks the cover in the closed position when the clutch is operated.
