Abstract

Piston slide valves; linkage gears.-In a fluidpressure drill having pairs of parallel single-acting cylinders inclined at 45‹ working on cranks au 180‹, each pair of parallel cylinders is controlled by a piston valve which is operated by an eccentric-strap 11 mounted on ball-bearings in the crank-shaft, through a push-rod 14 against the resistance of the fluid-pressure. Each valve, Fig. 3, has a hollow interior communicating through ports 18 with a groove 17, and a groove 16 which communicates with the exhaust. During the downward movement of the valve, fluid passes to one cylinder across the head 12, and during the upward movement, to the other cylinder through the valve and groove 17. The valves are mounted in ported, adjustable sleeves which are rotated by a hand-wheel 29 through toothgearing 27, 28 to effect the reversal of the drill. The drill is provided with a built-up crank-shaft, the part carrying the eccentric is fitted within and bolted to the other part. Hardened steel floating-bushes are arranged between and around the ports.
