Abstract

159,992. McClellan, W. N. Dec. 10, 1919. Doors for passenger vehicles.-The sliding doors 26 &c, of a railway vehicle are opened simultaneously by the engagement of a vertically movable shoe member 12 with a ramp 11 located on the track, and as the doors move into the open position they travel over pivoted catches 36 which engage with notches 37 in the lower edges of the doors to hold them in the open position. A cable connection secured to one end of each pivoted catch 36 is also connected through pivoted links 60 to pivoted flaps, one member 59 of which acts to bridge the gap between the car and the platform as the catch is depressed, as shown in Fig. 5. As these flap members 58, 59 are moved into the lowered position they depress spring-pressed fenders 62, 63 positioned respectively in the carriage and station platforms, and which normally project upwardly to serve as guards for keeping passengers away from the movable flap members. When the catches 36 are released. the flap members are raised into the inoperative position by the expansion of the springs 43.
