Description
PATENT SPECIFICATION
Application No 48009/77 ( 11) ( 22) Filed 4 Nov 1977 ( 44) Complete Specification published 16 Sept 1981 ( 51) INT CL 3 E 04 H 17/14 ( 52) Index at acceptance El D 132 155 170 177 2036 2107 2143 372 547 601 661 690 743 DG 52 F ( 54) CATTLE AND STOCK FENCING ( 71) I, JOHANNES D SCHROEDER (German), 2, Orchard Cottage, Ocle Pychard, Hereford, HR 1 3 RB do hereby declare the invention, for which I pray that a patent may be granted to me, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement:-
This invention is concerned with cattle and stock fencing and it is an object of the invention to provide a fencing assembly which may readily be set up and modified when in position.
Accordingly this invention provides a stock fencing assembly of adjustable height comprising an array of socket members set into the ground, upright posts whose lower ends are removably received in the socket members, and independent rails each mounted between pairs of posts carrying two or more vertically spaced lugs incorporating holes which receive downwardly directed mounting pins integral with the ends of the rails.
The invention may be performed in various ways and a preferred embodiment will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:Figure 1 illustrates a socket member, post and rail assembly in accordance with the invention; Figure 2 illustrates a capping member for use with the assembly of figure 1; and Figure 3 illustrates a modified form of posts provided with a mounting for a gate.
The assembly shown in Figure 1 comprises a socket member 1 which is set into a concrete floor so as to be flush with the floor level, an upright post 2 having an insert 3 of slightly smaller cross-section at its base, for receipt within the socket member 1 and a series of fence rails 4 (one of which only is shown) carried by the posts 2 The socket member 1 incorporates securing bars 5 passing through its base which fix the socket member in the concrete floor and provide a stop for the insert 3 of the post 2 The post carries a series of lugs 6 incorporating sleeves 7 for the receipt of mounting pins 8 situated at the ends of the rails 4 These pins 8 are welded to the rails 4 and have holes 9 drilled therethrough for receipt of securing members such as spring clips or R-shaped clips Thus a fence may be formed by locating a number of posts 2 within the socket 55 members 1 which have been positioned so that the rails may be mounted between a pair of posts by sliding the pins 8 into the sleeves 7 The size of the fencing may be varied by altering the number of rails 4 60 positioned between the posts 2 Thus, for example, if the manure level in an enclosure rises a rail mounted in the bottom lugs 6 could be moved to an upper position so that the overall height of the fencing above the 65 level within the enclosure is maintained.
The fencing may be totally dismantled and stored in a very short time and re-erected or modified with ease When the posts are removed the port capping members 10 70 shown in Figure 2 may be inserted in the socket members 1 so as to prevent them from becoming blocked.
Extension pieces may be provided to increase the height of the posts by slotting 75 such extension pieces into the tops of the posts and securing them there with bolts passed through aligned drill holes The extension members will of course incorporate the lugs 6 for receipt of further rails 4 80 As shown in Figure 3 some of the posts may also incorporate mounting plates 11 for alternative mounting of a gate 12 by means of a bar 13 passing through holes drilled through the plates 11 and through mounting 85 bars 14 on which the gates are supported.
Thus the height of the top of the gate also may be increased as required, such as when the manure level within an enclosure rises.

2 An assembly according to claim 1, wherein the lugs carry sleeves providing the holes receiving the mounting pins.
3 An assembly according to claim 1 or claim 2, wherein the pins are welded into the rails.
4 An assembly according to any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the pins are formed to receive securing members to prevent accidental removal of the rails from the lugs.
An assembly according to claim 4, wherein the securing members are spring clips.
6 An assembly according to any one of claims 1 to 5, including post extension members received by the tops of the posts and carrying lugs receiving the mounting pins.
7 An assembly according to claim 6, wherein the post extension members are secured to the posts by bolts passing through aligned holes.
8 An assembly according to any one of claims 1 to 7, including capping members for capping off the posts and of a size to fit 25 the socket members when the posts are removed.
9 An assembly according to any one of claims 1 to 8, wherein the socket members incorporate securing bars in the base thereof 30 to support the posts.
An assembly according to any one of claims 1 to 9, wherein some of the posts incorporate mounting plates for carrying a gate at alternative heights relative to the 35 posts.
11 An adjustable stock fencing assembly substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
