Abstract

159,422. Stemmler, W. March 18, 1920. Splints.-Adjustable leg splints, of the type in which concave plates are mounted upon tapering rods, are constructed so that any one of these plates can be removed prior to the assemblage of the splint, thus facilitating the treatment of open wounds without the necessity for disturbing the splint as a whole upon the injured limb. The splint comprises two tapering side rods hinged, between their ends, at, points corresponding to the knee-joint and adapted to he locked in adjusted position by set-screws l. A series of concave plates are formed with hooked ends to engage the side rods. The plates at one end are cut away at 2<1> to allow the heel to pass through, and at the other end are adapted to take extension plates 10 when required for long limbs. The footpiece h may be fitted with a concave plate against which the foot presses directly, or the foot may be suspended from the cross-bar of the frame. The frame engages a rack on a base member t to hold it in position.
