Abstract

110,209. Cooper, H. E., and Bird, A. Oct. 20. 1916. Tension apparatus. for applying persistent mechanical extension to leg and arm splints, comprises bars c, d pivoted to plates a, b carried by thigh and leg surrounding members f, g. The bars c, d are adjustably pivoted, and to effect the tension, they are pressed down to the position shown in Fig. 2 until slots l register with holes n in which locking-screws are passed; a locking-slide k closes the pivot joint. The foot of the patient rests against a foot-piece q to which it may be secured by an angle-shaped stirrup r, Fig. 5. In a modified construction, the plates a are secured to a rigid thigh frame, and the plates a and b carry padded straps encircling the thigh and leg.
