Abstract

159,405. Raison, A., and Burgess, T. A. Feb. 3, 1920. Mandrels.-The body of an expanding mandrel contains two sets of pins moved radially by longitudinal movement of two substantially cylindrical wedge-blocks actuated by a floating spindle. The body 1 screws onto a chucking shank 2. The two sets of pins, 5, 14 are actuated by the wedge-blocks 8, 15 slotted to take the pins, the sides of the slots having ribs which engage shallow grooves in the pins. The wedge-blocks are traversed by a screwed sp:.ndle 18 which passes .through the lathe mandrel and is rotated by a hand wheel. The block 15 is held against end movement relatively to the spindle by the lock-nuts 21.
