PATENT SPECIFICATION
of na ( 21) Application No 17183/78 ( 22) Filed 2 May 1978 = ( 31) Convention Application No 2756476 00 ( 32) Filed 17 December 1977 in 0 f ( 33) Fed Rep of Germany (DE) ( 44) Complete Specification published 29 April 1981 ( 51) INT CL 3 B 605 1/40 ( 52) Index at acceptance A 4 F 24 B 2 A 3 A 1 B ( 54) A WIPER FOR SCREENS OF MOTOR VEHICLES ( 71) We, ROBERT BOSCH GMBH, a German company of Postfach 50, 7 Stuttgart 1, Federal Republic of Germany, do hereby declare the invention, for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement:
The invention concerns a wiper comprising a wiper blade with a pressure distributing yoke forming part of the supporting harness A wiper is known in which the yoke has two side cheeks arranged at a distance from one another To the yoke is fixed a joint pin which projects laterally from the side cheeks of the pressure distributing yoke Hinged on this joint pin is a connecting member to which a wiper arm can be connected In this known wiper, the connecting member is merely supported on the section of the joint pin which projects laterally from the pressure distributing yoke In the case of this mode of support, the side cheeks, or rather the whole pressure distributing yoke, must be sufficiently robust so that, during operation of the wiper system, the pin attachment can withstand the continuous alternating loads.
In accordance with the invention, there is provided a wiper for screens of motor vehicles, comprising a yoke associated with a wiper blade, which yoke has two spaced side cheeks, and a joint pin projecting from one of the side cheeks of the yoke, a connecting member having a body hinged to the pin for the attachment of a wiper arm, the connecting member body being joined to an auxiliary part supported between and resting against the side cheeks of the yoke, by a crosspiece which passes across respective one of the side cheeks located between the connecting member body and the auxiliary part.
This wiper has the advantage over the above known wiper that the pressure distributing yoke is reinforced by the auxiliary part in the region where the joint pin is attached, so that, in the dimensioning of the pressure distributing yoke, the operating load on the pin attachment can be left out of consideration.
The invention is described further, by way of example, with reference to the accompany( 11) 1 588 658 ( 19) I ing drawings, wherein: 50 Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of the region of a wiper blade pressure distributing yoke in which the wiper arm is attached on a lateral joint pin of the yoke; Figure 2 is a longitudinal section through a 55 connecting member for the wiper arm hinged on the joint pin along the line II-II in Figure 1; and Figure 3 is a section along the line III-III through the wiper blade, connecting member 60 and the wiper arm.
The wiper shown in Figure 1 comprises a driven wiper arm 10 which at its free end forming a hook 12 is connected to a pressure distributing yoke 14 of a wiper blade which is not 65 shown in any detail The pressure distributing yoke 14 forms part of a wiper blade supporting harness and is of substantially U-shaped crosssection In the region of the pressure distributing yoke 14 where the hook 12 of the wiper 70 arm 10 is joined to the pressure distributing yoke 14, the web 16 connecting the two flanges of the pressure distributing yoke 14 has been removed, so that here the two flanges merely exist in the form of side cheeks 18, 20 arranged 75 at a distance from one another As can be seen in particular from Figure 3, a joint pin 22 is supported in the two side cheeks 18 and 20, and is arranged transversely to the extension of the wiper blade and projects laterally from the 80 pressure distributing yoke 14 The joint pin 22 is provided on its free end with a cap 24 and between the cap 24 and the side plate 20 of the pressure distributing yoke 14 facing the same, a connecting member 28 is supported so that it 85 can oscillate on the free joint pin section 26, which connecting member 28 is adapted so that it can receive the hook 12 of the wiper arm 10.
The construction of the connecting member 28 is evident in particular from Figures 2 and 3 90 Accordingly the connecting member 28 has a substantially U-shaped body 30, whose two limbs 32, 34 are joined together by a bottom section 36 The bottom section 36 has a bore 38 wherein the free joint pin section 26 of the 95 joint pin 22 is supported The two limbs 32 and 34 of the connecting member 28 are joined together by side flanges 40 and 42 A section 44 1 588 658 of the U-limb 34 of the connecting member 28, however, is kept free in respect of the side flanges 40 and 42 in such a manner that it forms a tongue which is merely connected to the bottom section 36 of the connecting member 28 Furthermore the tongue 44 is arranged so that in the operating position represented in Figure 2, where the hook 12 of the wiper arm 19 embaces the body 30 of the connecting member, it rests under an initial stress against the inside of the one limb 46 of the hook 12.
On its side facing the limb 46 of the hook, the tongue 44 is provided with a detent 48 which engages in an opening 50 of the limb 46 of the hook On the other limb 32 an angular projection 52 is arranged which extends substantially parallel with the limb 32 and over the base section 36 of the body 30, so that a pocket 54 is formed which accommodates the other limb 56 of the hook 12 in the operating position of the wiper device represented in Figure 2.
In between the two side cheeks 18 and 20 of the pressure distributing yoke 14 an auxiliary part 58 of the connecting member 28 is arranged and rests against the opposite faces of the side cheeks 18 and 20 The auxiliary part 58 is provided with an opening 60 by means of which it is supported so that it can oscillate on the section 62 of the joint pin 22 located between the two side plates 18 and 20 The auxiliary part 58 of the connecting member 28 is connected by a crosspiece 64 to the body 30 of the connecting member 28 or rather to the side flange 42, the crosspiece 64 passing across the side cheek 20.
By means of the auxiliary part 58 of the connecting member 28 located between the side cheeks 18 and 20 the strength of the side cheeks 18 and 20 is considerably improved, so that the alternating loads transferred to this 40 region during operation of the wiper system by the joint pin 22 can be absorbed without detrimental effects.
Claims (4)
