Abstract

Joist floors; reinforced block-work girders; roofs. -Reinforced concrete structures such as girders, bridges, floors, and masts or posts for electric lines are built up of preformed portions or lengths reinforced by tubes 2 and connected together by bolts 13 in the webs and by bars 8 passed through the tubes. The joints and tubes are grouted with cement, and vent holes or inspection openings 11 indicate the distribution of the cement. Short bars 6 may replace the long bars in the compression flanges. The bars 8 may be bolted to a plate 10 and may be varied in size according to the strength required. Two parallel built-up girders may be braced together by gussets 15, Fig. 10, and an intermediate member with bars passed through, as shown. The cross-section of the preformed lengths may be L, U, or other shape; the web is formed with ribs reinforced by straps 3 moored to the tubes 2. In curved girders for arches, the bars 8 are curved or may consist of cables. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also latticed lengths or sections and the application of the invention to roof trusses for sheds, hangars, &c. as shown in Fig. 14 (Cancelled). Further, for short structures not subject to bending, the tubes may be omitted. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
