Abstract
158,597. Chick, P. Sept. 15, 1916. Propelling, steering, and manoeuvring by re. ciprocating pistons and plates.-A pair of folding blades k are reciprocated in the water by means of a rod m projecting through the stern of the vessel b. The blades are hinged to one arm of a cruciform structure n so that they are free to open and abut against the other arm during the outward stroke of the rod m. A similar device may be provided in the bow of the vessel. The Provisional Specification describes also an apparatus in which the vessel is propelled by a piston reciprocated in a cylinder open at one end to the sea. The piston is forced outwards by pressure fluid between it and the closed end of the cylinder, and returned by the pressure of the water.
