Abstract
158,412. Allsop, F. W. Nov. 17, 1919. Saws, sharpening.-In a saw sharpening and setting machine having the file 56, Fig. VI, and the setting-hammers 48, 47, operated by the same mechanism, these tools are arranged on a rotatabie holder 24 carried by links 13, 14, pivoted on parts 10. 11 of a sliding frame 7, mounted on bars 9 forming part of a fixed frame 3 attachable to a pillar &c. The frame 7 is reciprocated by a crank-pin 5 engaging cross-head 6 sliding in vertical guides on the frame, and having a camshaped part which, when the machine is used for filing, and during the return stroke when the cross-head 6 is in the lower part of its vertical travel, engages a roller 16 and keeps the file 56 away from the saw, against 'the adjustable pressure of a spring mounted on a bar 21, which abuts with one end against a pivoted link 22 having a roller 23 bearing on theholder 24, and having the ether end slidably held in a bracket 19 adjustable on a rod 18. The saw 57 is held laterally between the frame 3 and a clamping- plate 25 resiliently pressed by a nut 26 and spring washer 27, and is backed up by a sliding plate and adjusting-screw, the plate having a stud to carry circular saws. The feed of the saw is performed by a pawl 39 on one end of a lever 38, at the other end of which are an adjustable screw stop 53, and an adjustable screw 37 engaging a bell-crank lever 62 carrying a roller 35 laterally slidable to engage either a cam 33 with one projection, for use during the filing operation, or a cam 34 with two projections, for use when setting. For setting the saw teeth the holder 24 is held in a retracted position by a pin passing through holes 54, 55, and is rotated so that the setting hammers 47, 48 adjustably mounted in the adjustable brackets 40. 41, are in position to set alternate teeth in opposite directions. After the adjustment of the holder 24, either to position the file or the lammers, it is clamped in position by a thumb screw 15 in a split tubular portion of the carrier.
