Abstract

Driving and feed devices.-In a grinding-machine, variable-speed gear is provided, comprising a belt or like drive, whereby a continuous variation of speed of the driven member may be obtained. The gearing comprises two shafts b, c each carrying a cone pulley, the pulleys being ccnnected by a bevelled edge belt. The pulley on the shaft b comprises a coned disc b<1> fixed thereto and a coned disc b<2> movable towards and from the fixed disc, and the pulley on the shaft c comprises a similar fixed disc c<3> and a movable disc c<1>. The discs b<2>, c<1> are moved by levers d. e so arranged that as the distance apart of one pair of discs increases, that of the other pair decreases ; the belt thus moves outwards from one shaft and inwards towards the other. The levers are moved by a spindle g movable axially by mechanism controlled by a hand-wheel, and are connected to the spindle through a sleeve h surrounding the spindle and having right-and-left hand screw-threads respectively engaging the levers, whereby, bv rotation of the sleeve, the levers may be moved to adjust the movable discs independently of the spindle g. The gearing described is for the work drive; similar gearing Z', l<2>, m', m<2> may also be provided for the table drive. The gearings may be controlled, one by a shaft, and the other by a tube concentric there,- with.
