Abstract

Vapour apparatus, arrangements of; commutator switching-arrangements. - Mercury-vapour rectifiers are used in combination with mechanical interrupters which interrupt the anode circuits at or near the zero points of the voltage curves. In the arrangement shown, for rectifying three-phase currents, a rectifier G with twelve anodes A, - - A12 is used. The anodes are fed from the twelve-phase secondary winding Q of a transformer T, with a three-phase primary winding P connected to the net N. The interrupter U, inserted between the transformer and the rectifier, is in the form of a rotating commutator driven by a synchronous motor M. The commutator is provided with twelve segments L1 - - L12' each of which extends over two-thirds of the periphery, adjacent segments being displaced relatively to one another by one-twelfth of the periphery. These segments co-operate with brushes 1 - - 12, 1<1> - - 12<1> connected respectively to the secondary phases and to the anodes, the two sets of brushes being displaced relatively to each other through 60 degrees. (On the drawing, the brushes are shown displaced through 180‹). Means may be provided for adjusting the position of the brushes, and the position of the rotor or stator of the motor M relatively to the interrupter may be varied by mechanical or electrical means controlled by the load circuit.
