Description

(54) A STAND FOR AN AUTOMATIC WELDING HEAD (71) We, DEUZER MASCHINENPABRIIÇ GMBH, of D 5902 Netphen 3, Germany, a German Company, do hereby declare the invention, for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement: The invention relates to a stand for an automatic welding head, comprising an upright supporting column which is rotatable about its vertical longitudinal axis, and a transverse arm attached to the column.
Such stands for carrying automatic welding heads are known in the art. The supporting column in known forms of construction has a fixed predetermined height, whereas the transverse arm is elevationally adjostable and may extend outwards from one or both sides of the column. The automatic welding head is attached to the arm.
It has been found that in these conventional stands for automatic welding heads the fixed length of the column as well as of the arm is a drawback which results in such equipment occupying more space when in use than is neoessary. This applies more particularly to the relatively tall column of the stand.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a stand for supporting an automatic welding head which is adaptable with regard to the lengths of the column and arm to the requirements of the work in hand.
According to the present invention there is provided a stand for an automatic welding head comprising a base, an upright supporting column mounted on the base and rotatable relative to the base about a vertical axis, and a transverse arm attached to the column, characterised in that the column and the arm are each composed of a plurality of telescopically co-operating elements of non-circular cross section, and that rollers are disposed between the elements, the column and the arm being telescopically extendable by interconnected drive spindles associated with the elements.
One advantage afforded by the proposed stand for automatic welding heads is that the employment of telescopically co-operating elements for both the supporting column and the transverse arm gives rise to a piece of equipment which occupies minimal space. According to the requirements of the work the length of the supporting column can be increased or reduced and the same applies to the transverse arm.
With referenoe to the individual elements there is the additional advantage that they may be graduated lengths and interchangeable with longer elements which may be used when lexceptionally high stands and very long arms are needed. In other words, the design of the proposed stand for automatic welding heads is based on the standard unit construction principle which provides an applicational and utility range not afforded by the conventional types of stand.
The interconnected drive spindles in conjunction with the roller mounting also permits each element to be of simple design, so that besides the advantage of applicational universalty there is the added advantage of low cost of production.
An embodiment of the invention will now be more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Fig. 1 is a side view of a stand according to the invention for an automatic welding head, and Fig. 2 is a side view at right angles to that in Fig. 1.
The illustrated stand according to the invention for an automatic welding head consists of a supporting column 1 and a transverse arm 2. The column 1 is composed of telescopically co-operating elements 3, 4.
The transverse arm 2 is of similar construction and is likewise composed of telescopically co-operating elements 5, 6, 7, 8.
These telescopically co-operating elements are relatively longitudinally movable by spindles not shown in the drawing and the spindles are kinematically coupled by intermediate transmission means. The column 1 is mounted for rotation about its vertical axis. Together with its rotary bearings the column 1 is mounted on a carriage 9 which runs on wheels, rollers or the like 10 adapted to run on a rail track 11. This further improves the convenience of handling the stand.
WHAT WE CLAIM IS: 1. A stand for an automatc welding head comprising a base, an upright supporting column mounted on the base and rotatable relative to the base about a vertical axis, and a transverse arm attached to the column, characterized in that the column and the arm are each composed of a plurality of telescopically co-operating elements of non-crcular cross section, and that rollers are disposed between the elements, the column and the arm being telescopically extendable by interconnected drive spindles associated with the elements.
2. A stand as claimed in claim 1, in combination with additional element interchangeable with elements of the column and arm, the additional elements being longer than the elements which they are adapted to replace, whereby the overall length of the column and arm in the extended position can be increased by substitution of the additional elements.
3. A stand for an automatic welding head substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.

Claims (3)

**WARNING** start of CLMS field may overlap end of DESC **. WHAT WE CLAIM IS:
