Abstract

158,207. Koylinoyl Suspension Corporation, (Assignees of Lanzius, G.). Jan. 24, 1920, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Pneumatic springs.-In pneumatic suspensions, particularly for automobiles, in which road shocks are minimized and transmitted to all four wheels, cushioning-elements as described below are connected to the axles by members pivoted to the chassis. Each axle 2, Fig. 1, has bosses near its ends, on which bosses are disposed sockets 4 having universal movement and mounted on the ends of the arms 5 of bell-crank levers pivoted to depending brackets 7. The other arms of the levers are secured to connecting-rods 9 joined to rods 10 of cup-shaped spring-pressed pistons 11, Fig. 3, in compression cylinders 12 one of which is disposed on each side of the chassis. Ports 14 in the cylinders connect with chambers 15. A heavy fluid 16, such as oil or grease, is disposed in the cylinders 12 and normally rises to the level shown, below the outlets of a tube 17 connected by a valved tube 18 to a compressed-air tank 19. A shock on any wheel is thus transmitted by the compressed air to the other wheels, and the recoil is also minimized.
