Rail joints, scarf and like. - Relates to rail joints in which the meeting faces of the rail are S-shaped in plan, and consists in positioning the cut portion of the web b between two bolt-holes g, the centre portion c<2> of the cut being straight and parallel to the rail. The length of the straight part c<2> should be as great as the maximum expansion of the rails, and ends in curved parts c<1>, c'. The curves cut the side edges B of the head of the rail at points A,. the tangent T at A being less than 90‹. The angle is 60‹ when, as shown, the radius R equals the width of the rail head. The curved part c<3> may terminate outside the rail head in a straight portion d.
