Abstract

156,816. Lockett, W. T., and Shaw, A. Herring-. Aug. 11, 1917. Aerating. - In apparatus for aerating sewage comprising moving arms having a porous or perforated upper surface through which air passes into the sewage, as described in Specification 156,817, the arms are furnished with inclined lifting-surfaces which cause the sludge to pass over the porous or perforated surface. Fig. 1 shows an arm a provided with a perforated surface b and a lifting-surface c. The lifting- surface may be formed by a blade, the space behind which may be filled up if desired, of metal blocks or otherwise. The cross-section of the surface may be straight, broken as shown in Fig. 3, or curved. The lifting-surface may be scalloped to check radial motion of the sludge under centrifugal force.
