Abstract

Thrashing-machines.-A machine for removing palm and like fruits from the stems comprises a moving surface by which rotary motion about its axis is imparted to the bunch of fruit. An endlees belt may be employed, the fruit being retained thereon by a grid or plate. In another form, the moving surface takes the form of two or more rollers 15, Fig. 2, forming a trough and rotating in the same direction. The bunches are guided to the drums by a plate 19, the fruits falling through to a slope 20 and conveyer 21, and the stalk being expelled periodically by a sliding grid 22 which is moved along the rollers at intervals. A further drum 16 prevents the bunch being carried round by the drum 15. Each of the rollers 15 may be divided longitudinally into sections, which are rotated at different speeds, means being provided to move the bunches along the rollers continuously to increase the speed of rotation of the bunch. The moving surface may take the form of a disc over which a radial retaining-roller is mounted. Increasing speed may be obtained by moving the branches towards the circumference of the disc. This action may be rendered automatic by arranging the roller in the position of a chord instead of radially.
