Abstract

155,890. Beresford, K. Sept. 17, 1919. Wind motors; current motors. -The vertical shaft 10 carries a rotor on the sides of which are fixed vanes 15. Enclosing the rotor is a cylindrical casing having apertures in its sides with which co-operate shutters 17. The shutters are of the same radius as the rotor and are mounted on pivots 18 so that they are capable of being closed about the rotor, totally enclos. ing it for protection against storms. Plates 19 are fixed to the top edges of the shutters to protect the top of the rotor. The shutters, when open, direct the wind on to the rotor and are adjustable by hand gearing on the lower end of the shaft 24, which, when partially rotated, imparts motion to links 21, 22 and cranks 20 on the pivots 18. The Provisional Specification describes a method of adjusting the shutters consisting of a circular rack having internal teeth gearing with a pinion on a shaft having hand-gearing at its lower end. External teeth gear with pinions on the pivots 18.
