Dwellings and rooms, arrangement and design of.-Relates to improvements in cottages &c. whereby a two-storey dwelling is provided in part with a third storey without departing from the usual type of roof. The left-hand side of Fig. 1 shows the ground floor, in which a living room 32 is divided off from the remainder by a partition 31. The other part is subdivided to form a hall or lobby 1 leading from an external doorway 1<a> through an internal doorway 34 to a compartment 33 serving as a scullery and leading by way of a door 34<1> to a larder 35. The fuel compartment 37 is below the ground floor and is reached directly from the lobby by means of steps 38. The stair way 39 leads up to a landing 40 directly over the compartment 37 and containing a w.c. 41. The space 43 between the stairway 39 and the scullery 33 may house a perambulator &c. From the landing 40 a stairway 44 leads to the upper storey which is divided by a partition 45 to form two bedrooms 46, 47 with cupboards 48. A short stairway 49 leads to a landing 49<1> having the bathroom 50. In a modified construction, the bathroom occupies the space below the landing 40, and the fuel compartment may be divided off from it. The space above the landing 49<1> is occupied by an extra bedroom one of the partition walls of which does not reach right up to the ceiling, to facilitate ventilation.
