Description

(54) WEEFT BOBBINS (71) We, RUTI MACHINERY WORKS LIMITED, a Swiss company, of 8630 Rutil ZH, Switzerland, do hereby declare the invention, for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement: This invention relates to a weft bobbin for a loom having an electrical apparatus which is sensitive to magnetic fields.
Weft bobbins are known wherein one or more rings is/are inserted in a groove or respective grooves extending round the bobbin head. To arrange the or each ring in its groove, the ring is divided at one region so that it can be stretched open slightly in order to allow it to be received over the bobbin head. In so-called ring bobbins, these rings are used for holding the bobbin head in the shuttle by means of two elastic jaws. Usually the rings are made of magnetic material and in this way are also used in the mechanical operation of bobbins, for example in transporting the bobbins by means of magnets.
In present-day looms, electrical monitoring and counting apparatus are being more and more widely used. It has been found that disturbances may occur in these apparatus since the rings themselves become magnetized by operating with the magnets, and then the rings with their residual magnetism produce disturbance signals in these apparatus.
According to the present invention, there is provided in a loom including an electrical apparatus which is sensitive to magnetic fields, a weft bobbin including a bobbin head on which there is arranged at least one completely closed ring consisting of magnetisable material and extending round the bobbin head.
In order that the invention may be clearly understood and readily carried into effect, reference will now be made, by way of example, to the accompanying drawing, in which: Figure 1 shows a side view of a weft bobbin, Figure 2 shows a cross-section taken on the line II-II of Figure 1, Figure 3 shows a fragmentary longitudinal section through a modified version of the bobbin, Figure 4 shows a fragmentary side view of another modified version of the bobbin, and Figure 5 shows a cross-section taken along the line V-V of Figure 4.
The weft bobbin 11 shown in Figures 1 and 2 comprises a shank 12, a neck 13 and a bobbin head 14. The bobbin concerned here is a bobbin 11 which is intended for a clamping shuttle, namely a bobbin whose head is clamped fast in the shuttle by two holders which are supported by the side walls of the shuttle and which are preloaded towards one another.
In order to allow the mechanical operation of the bobbin, for example the transporting thereof, by the use of magnets, a ring 16 of a magnetic material is provided in a groove 15 arranged in the head 14.
It is already known to use metal rings in ring bobbins; but these rings are not continuous. Such a ring comprises a gap so that it can be opened out to allow it to be inserted into a circumferential groove which is provided on the bobbin head.
It has been found that such a ring itself becomes magnetized when the bobbin is manipulated by means of a magnet and that, as already mentioned, it may as a result disturb some electrical equipment. It has also been found that the gaps in the rings have been the cause of disturbing effects on electrical monitoring and counting apparatus, since the pattern of the lines of force caused by the gap spreads out in the neighbourhood of the gap.
Therefore, a completely closed ring 16 is used for the bobbin head 14 as shown in Figures 1 and 2. If it becomes magnetised, the magnetic fields extend substantially completely within the ring and have no effect worth mentioning at the exterior.
The ring 16 is given such dimensions that it can be fitted over the head 14 as far as the groove 15. At two regions of the groove 15 there are provided in the bobbin head 14 recesses 17 (Figure 2). At these regions, the ring 16 is pressed into the recesses 17, whereas the remainder of the ring is applied against intervening lands. As a result the ring 16 is given the loop-shaped deformations 18 projecting into the recesses 17.
If, as Figures 1 and 2 show, the ring 16 is made in the form of a band, the formation of the deformations 18 is facilitated as a result The deformation 18 situated in each recess 17 also has the additional advantage that the ring 14 is secured against rotational movement and generally speaking against displacement relatively to the bobbin head 14. In order that in the case of clamping shuttles the bobbin head 14 can be held precisely under all circumstances by the clamping jaws provided on the shuttle walls, the ring 16 is advantageously completely sunk into the interior of the groove.
In the version shown in Figure 3, the bobbin head 30 is glued to the shank 12.
In this case also the band 16 of magnetic material is situated in a groove 15. In order to allow the band 16 to be introduced into the groove 15, the bobbin head 30 is made in two parts 31 and 32. The band 16 is received in the groove 15 as the two parts 31, 32 are joined together and adhesively secured to the shank 12.
Figures 4 and 5 show a version in the form of a so-called ring bobbin. At the head 24 of this bobbin there are arranged four rings 22 each of which is situated in a groove provided in the bobbin head 24.
The four rings 22 are completely closed rings. At each groove there is provided at at least one location (in the illustrated example two locations) a recess 25 in the external peripheral surface of the bobbin head 24. At the region of each recess 25, the deformation 21 of the ring 22 extends into the recess 25. The remainder of the ring is pressed into its groove or applied against it.
The version illustrated in Figures 4 and 5 also has the advantage that the grooves are no longer absolutely necessary. If each ring comprises two or more deformations extending into openings in the bobbin head, it can be held in position thereby, so that the grooves can be dispensed with.
WHAT WE CLAIM IS: 1. In a loom including an electrical apparatus which is sensitive to magnetic fields, a weft bobbin including a bobbin head on which there is arranged at least one completely closed ring consisting of magnetisable material and extending round the bobbin head.
2. A weft bobbin according to claim 1, wherein the or each ring comprises at least one loop-shaped deformation which extends into a recess provided in the external peripheral surface of the bobbin head.
3. A weft bobbin according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the or each ring is mounted in a groove which is provided in the external peripheral surface of the bobbin head and extends round said head.
4. A weft bobbin according to any preceding claim, wherein the bobbin head comprises two parts joined together and the join between the two parts is externally covered by said one ring.
5. A weft bobbin according to any preceding claim, wherein the or each ring is of band form.
6. A weft bobbin according to claim 3, or claim 4 or 5 as appended to claim 3, wherein the or each ring is completely received within the interior of the groove.
7. In a loom including an electrical apparatus which is sensitive to magnetic fields, a weft bobbin substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to Figures 1 and 2, Figure 3, or Figures 4 and 5, of the accomanying drawing.
8. A method of producing a weft bobbin according to claim 2, wherein in the external peripheral surface of the bobbin head there is provided at least one recess, so leaving at least one complementary land, at least one completely closed ring is re- ceived over the bobbin head, and the or each ring in the region of the or each recess is pressed into the recess and in the region of the or each land is applied against the land.
9. A method of producing a weft bobbin, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to Figures 1 and 2, or Figures 4 and 5, - of the accompanying drawing.

Claims (9)

**WARNING** start of CLMS field may overlap end of DESC **. neighbourhood of the gap. Therefore, a completely closed ring 16 is used for the bobbin head 14 as shown in Figures 1 and 2. If it becomes magnetised, the magnetic fields extend substantially completely within the ring and have no effect worth mentioning at the exterior. The ring 16 is given such dimensions that it can be fitted over the head 14 as far as the groove 15. At two regions of the groove 15 there are provided in the bobbin head 14 recesses 17 (Figure 2). At these regions, the ring 16 is pressed into the recesses 17, whereas the remainder of the ring is applied against intervening lands. As a result the ring 16 is given the loop-shaped deformations 18 projecting into the recesses 17. If, as Figures 1 and 2 show, the ring 16 is made in the form of a band, the formation of the deformations 18 is facilitated as a result The deformation 18 situated in each recess 17 also has the additional advantage that the ring 14 is secured against rotational movement and generally speaking against displacement relatively to the bobbin head 14. In order that in the case of clamping shuttles the bobbin head 14 can be held precisely under all circumstances by the clamping jaws provided on the shuttle walls, the ring 16 is advantageously completely sunk into the interior of the groove. In the version shown in Figure 3, the bobbin head 30 is glued to the shank 12. In this case also the band 16 of magnetic material is situated in a groove 15. In order to allow the band 16 to be introduced into the groove 15, the bobbin head 30 is made in two parts 31 and 32. The band 16 is received in the groove 15 as the two parts 31, 32 are joined together and adhesively secured to the shank 12. Figures 4 and 5 show a version in the form of a so-called ring bobbin. At the head 24 of this bobbin there are arranged four rings 22 each of which is situated in a groove provided in the bobbin head 24. The four rings 22 are completely closed rings. At each groove there is provided at at least one location (in the illustrated example two locations) a recess 25 in the external peripheral surface of the bobbin head 24. At the region of each recess 25, the deformation 21 of the ring 22 extends into the recess 25. The remainder of the ring is pressed into its groove or applied against it. The version illustrated in Figures 4 and 5 also has the advantage that the grooves are no longer absolutely necessary. If each ring comprises two or more deformations extending into openings in the bobbin head, it can be held in position thereby, so that the grooves can be dispensed with. WHAT WE CLAIM IS:
1. In a loom including an electrical apparatus which is sensitive to magnetic fields, a weft bobbin including a bobbin head on which there is arranged at least one completely closed ring consisting of magnetisable material and extending round the bobbin head.
2. A weft bobbin according to claim 1, wherein the or each ring comprises at least one loop-shaped deformation which extends into a recess provided in the external peripheral surface of the bobbin head.
3. A weft bobbin according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the or each ring is mounted in a groove which is provided in the external peripheral surface of the bobbin head and extends round said head.
4. A weft bobbin according to any preceding claim, wherein the bobbin head comprises two parts joined together and the join between the two parts is externally covered by said one ring.
5. A weft bobbin according to any preceding claim, wherein the or each ring is of band form.
6. A weft bobbin according to claim 3, or claim 4 or 5 as appended to claim 3, wherein the or each ring is completely received within the interior of the groove.
7. In a loom including an electrical apparatus which is sensitive to magnetic fields, a weft bobbin substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to Figures 1 and 2, Figure 3, or Figures 4 and 5, of the accomanying drawing.
8. A method of producing a weft bobbin according to claim 2, wherein in the external peripheral surface of the bobbin head there is provided at least one recess, so leaving at least one complementary land, at least one completely closed ring is re- ceived over the bobbin head, and the or each ring in the region of the or each recess is pressed into the recess and in the region of the or each land is applied against the land.
9. A method of producing a weft bobbin, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to Figures 1 and 2, or Figures 4 and 5, - of the accompanying drawing.
