1 Claim. (Cl. 139-13) Our invention relates to textile machinery, and more particularly to circular looms of the type in which the thread bearing member, for instance a shuttle, is driven by electromagnetic forces.
As in our prior application, Ser. No. 5 6, 4, filed May 9, 1931, of which this case is a division, the object of our present invention is to eliminate the drawbacks of electric propulsion as designed heretofore for circular looms, in which the shuttle constituted an armature of a. rotating magnet acting upon the same at one side of the shed, and another magnet was provided at the opposite side of shed and propelled by the magnetic reaction between itself and the shuttle.
Another object of our invention is to provide means including a fixed magnet system with a circular gap for generating a travelling electric field, and a'shuttle or shuttles having a part of conducting and non-magnetizable material for engaging said gap. w
A further object of our invention is to provide a set of radial droppers intermediate the warp threads defining the circular gap.
The part of the shuttle which engages the gap may be shaped in various ways.
There may also be two gaps and the gap-engaging member may be U-shaped or looped for engaging them.
Inthe accompanying drawing various embodiments of our invention are illustrated diagrammatically by way of example.
In the drawing:
Figs. 1, 4 and 6 show plan views of different forms of the magnet system of the doom,
Figs. 2 and 5 show elevations of the magnet and Fig. 3 shows the winding of the magnet system.
Referring to Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 5 the magnet system consists of an inner circular magnet E pro- It may be a fiat fin or a slotted tube, for instance.
currents and imparting a circular movement ,to
the shuttle along the gap 61. The droppers 51, 58 serve for closing the magnetic force lines of the stator E across the ring Er, and also for guiding the warp threads T (Figs. 2 and 5). Dovetailed rings 63, 64 of non-magnetizable material are secured to the ring Er for holding the droppers 51, and similar rings 65, 66 are provided for securing the droppers 58 to the magnet E. 'Pref erablya layer of insulating material is inserted between these rings 64-66 and the part support- 0 ing them. Between the droppers distance holders 59 and 60 are inserted and the free ends of the droppers are held by braces 6|. 1 In Fig. 4 the positions of the magnet E and of the ring Er are interchanged, while in Fig. 6 the magnet E and ring Er are replaced by twomagnets E1 and E2, both provided with windings W.
What we claim is:
In a circular loom, two sets of radial droppers radially spaced to form a circular gap, the indi- V vidual droppers being circumferentially spaced to provide slots for the warp threads, a fixed magnet system connected to said droppers for generating a traveling electric field,v and a shuttle having a part of conducting and non-magnetic material engaging said gap.
