Abstract

A magnified image of the specimen is generated on a display screen. An index line (10) is arranged at the intersection point of the optical axis (9) of the image-generating system on the display screen (8). By using a device for moving the specimen and for measuring this movement (26), the specimen can be displaced between two positions in which in each case an edge point of a section of the specimen that is to be determined coincides with the display screen index. This design has no need of an expensive, distortion-free imaging system for magnifying the specimen true to scale, since it is, after all, the case that only the region of the optical axis of the image-generating system that is free from imaging errors is used to measure the specimen. This device is advantageously used to evaluate immune diffusion plates or immunophoresis plates. <IMAGE>
