Folding boxes; battens; strengthening; fittings, internal.-The ends b, d, Fig. 1, of a collapsible box, carton, &c. have extensions i which, when the box has been erected, are turned in over corner-pieces g and engaged behind strips k secured to the ends, thus holding the box erect. The sides a, c may be so arranged that they must collapse inwardly, the corner-pieces g being connected to the ends b, d by folds m, Fig. 3, and staples n, diagonal folds o allowing the cornerpieces g to fold back upon themselves as the box is erected. In a modification of the arrangement shown in Fig. 3, the ends b, d and their extensions i are formed with oblique creases p, Fig. 6, so arranged that, when the extensions i have been raised, the sides a, c may be folded inwards, the ends b, d and their extensions i folding along the creases p. In a further modification, the ends b, d and their extensions i have oppositely-disposed oblique creases r, Fig. 8, and the bottom e has a diagonal crease s, thus permitting the box to be folded as shown in Fig. 7. The bottom e is strengthened by a wooden bar t, one end of which is permanently secured to the bottom e, the other end being detachably secured by metal clips u. A wreath &c. may be secured to the bar t by metal clips w. The box may be stiffened by forming the extensions i with creases v, v<1>, Fig. 10, so that they become triangular in cross-section.
