Abstract

To reduce pressure surges when conveying foodstuffs of the dairy industry, especially milk and yoghurt, a pressure surge compensator (7) is inserted in the feed pipe (2) of a packaging machine and an easily extensible rubber tube (15) is arranged in the tubular casing (14) of the said compensator (7). The rubber tube (15) which is clamped in flanges (16) forms the continuation of the feed pipe (2) and is surrounded by a limiting pipe (20) in order to limit the volume. The said limiting pipe (20) is made of metal and is provided with numerous perforations to permit the passage of air. When a pressure surge occurs, the rubber tube (15) expands (see right half of the figure) and the pressure surge is equalised by a counterpressure prevailing in the annular space (13), which counterpressure may be obtained by means of a compressed air pipe (21), for example. The pressure prevailing in the pipe (21) may be varied by means of a pressure regulator inserted upstream. This device can be cleaned and sterilised in an uncomplicated and simple manner, and it does not take up much space. <IMAGE>
