Stringed instruments, tuning-pins for. - The screwed-up pin of a stringed instrument is prevented from turning backwards by the action of a brake lever which is operated by the string passing over it. Fig. 1 shows a guitar or mandolin, and Fig. 3 shows details of the pin and brake lever. A pulley i secured to the pin c is pressed upon by a brake lever k which is pivoted at l, and carries a pin m pressed upon by the string.
