Abstract
154,398. Caterpillar Tractors, Ltd., (Holt Manufacturing Co.). Oct. 7, 1919. Endless-track vehicles. -An endless-track vehicle of light construction has the frame formed of pressed steel with a longitudinally extending cavity to enclose the driving and operating mechanism. The frame is supported on the trucks by two transverse leaf springs, the front spring being pivoted to the frame while the rear one is rigidly attached thereto. The frame comprises a central troughshaped member 10, Fig. 2, of pressed steel fitted -with removable covers 18, 19 to provide access to the transmission &c. and with side sills 11 and end pieces 12 and 13. Intermediate transverse members 15, 16 are provided and carry bars 17 which, together with the front end plate 12, form supports for the engine. The transmission housing is carried by the rear end piece 13. The trucks 26 are pivoted on a transverse shaft and support the frame at the rear on a spring 28, Fig. 8, attached by a saddle 27 to the main frame and by shackles to the trucks. The front spring is centrally pivoted between depending cross sills on the frame.
