Abstract

To improve the utilisation of round timber in the conversion to squared timber, round-timber sections are trimmed symmetrically at the side in the area of their curved cross-sectional boundary in equal angles in the opposite direction and are glued to one another in layers at the trimmed surfaces in each case in opposite direction. Here, the trimmed surfaces are dimensioned to be so short that a considerable part of the curved cross-sectional boundary is left on either side of the trimmed surfaces and forms a hollow gusset (9) between the assembled round-timber sections. The layers are then cut to form squared timber, the cuts (8) expediently being made in the area of the gluing so that complete edges (10) remain on all sides. <IMAGE>
