Abstract

In such an injection nozzle for an air-compressing, direct- injection internal combustion engine a nozzle needle (2) is guided in the injection nozzle body (1) and pressed by spring force onto a seat (3). From a hollow cavity (5) arranged in the injection nozzle body (1) four nozzle bores (6), running parallel and closely adjacent to one another, run out into the combustion chamber at an angle (x) to the injection nozzle longitudinal axis (x). The disadvantage inherent in such internal combustion engines that the mixture formation in the lower load range, when idling and in starting does not proceed swiftly enough due to insufficient warming of the combustion chamber wall is overcome in that the fuel forms smaller fuel droplets in the lower and middle speed and load range and crosses the combustion chamber as a closed fuel jet only in the upper speed and load range of the engine, thereby achieving a mixture formation as in the case of a single-hole nozzle. <IMAGE>
