Abstract

154,059. Caterpillar Tractors, Ltd., (Holt Manufacturing Co.). Nov. 6, 1919. Endless-track vehicles.-The trucks comprise a pair of pressed steel side plates between which the rollers are received, the plates being united along their upper edges and provided with a flange forming a guide for the upper runs of the tracks. The trucks are connected by a hollow transverse shaft about which sleeves on the trucks pivot and the idlers are adjusted by a worm operated from the outside. The tractor, which is of low design, comprises a frame mounted on the trucks by means of transverse springs, the trucks comprising side plates 14 the upper edges of which are united, an intermediate stiffening-web 14a being provided. The upper runs of the tracks are supported on a flange 16 or the webs 14a may be fitted with rollers. The trucks are fitted with sleeves 29 fitting over a transverse shaft 28 independent of the main frame. The bearings for the idlers 12 are mounted in guides 20 and are adjusted by fitting the stirrups carrying the bearings. with screw-and-nut mechanism, the nuts being rotated by a transverse worm shaft 23.
