Abstract

The novel polypeptides consist of a sequence of 3 to 10 amino acids which corresponds to a part of the amino acid sequence 265 - 537 of the Fc region of immunoglobulin E (IgE). A first amino acid or a peptide, which may be covalently bonded to a solid carrier, is condensed with a second amino acid or a peptide so that the total number of the amino acid radicals is equal to that of the polypeptide to be prepared. Carboxyl and amino groups, except for those which are to react, are present in protected form; the protecting groups and the solid carrier are subsequently cleaved off. The polypeptides are also converted into salts, esters, amides, N-acyl derivatives and O-acyl derivatives. The compounds block the bonding sites of IgE; they can be used for the prophylaxis or treatment of the symptoms of allergic reactions.
