Abstract

Demultiplexer/multiplexer units which are connected to a switching unit of a PCM exchange via a PCM time-division multiplex line can have the task of distributing data or signal channels transmitted via the time-division multiplex line to the connected channel-individual device or combining signals received from there for transmission in the opposite direction or can be used for distributing digital information supplied in time-division multiplex to audio-frequency connections or to combine this information from there on the time-division multiplex line. The central parts are then monitored by the value of a certain time channel being forwarded, for locking the channel counter with the frame alignment word sent by the switching unit, via the central parts (FZ, LS) to the decentralised function part (FDO) allocated to this time channel and being sent back in the opposite direction of transmission, after reflection, to the frame detection circuit (RED) of the switching unit. For outputting error messages to the central processor, due to a missing or erroneously received frame alignment word, the signalling paths existing between the central processor and the switching unit are utilised. <IMAGE>
