Abstract
A process for the treatment of clay comprises suspending the clay in water with the aid of a deflocculator such as sodium carbonate and then, before any settlement takes place, evaporating the whole suspension to dryness. The clay may be first mixed with sufficient water to give a pasty mass, and then sufficient deflocculator added to produce fluidity, with or without further addition of deflocculator until the fluidity decreases; or the clay may be directly worked up with water and deflocculator. The clay may be first purified, for example by one of the processes described in Specification 106,890 or 121.191, [both in Class 87 (i), Bricks &c.]. The product may be used for incorporation with rubber.
