Abstract

153,858. Isenthal, A. W. Oct. 28, 1919. Condensers. - In an adjustable condenser for tuning oscillatory circuits and other uses, the capacity is varied by unwrapping or wrapping one armature on the surface of a preferably very thin dielectric placed over the other armature which is rigidly mounted on the surface of a drum. The armature 7, shown developed in Fig. 4, is formed of foil secured on an insulating- drum 3 and connected by a screw 8 and conductor 9 to an insulated disk 10 on the shaft 1 of the drum, connexion to the terminal 13 being made. by a brush 12. The armature is overlaid by a thin dielectric layer 14. The other armature consists of a flexible metal strip 15 coiled on an insulating cylinder 16 and secured at one end by a screw 20 to the surface of the drum 3 so that as the drum is turned the armature 15 is unwound against the action of a spring 18 in the cylinder and is tightly wound over the armature 7. The armature 15 is connected to the second terminal 25 through the shaft 17 and a brush 24 which bears on an insulated disk 22 on the shaft 1. This disk is connected by a conductor 21 to the screw 20. The armatures are shown of triangular form, but may have any other shape to give any desired scale calibration.
