Abstract

Fuel, feeding.-A mixture of coal-dust and air under pressure is supplied by a fan E to a chamber M where it is kept in agitation by beaters m<6> and from which it is fed to one or more furnaces under control of valves t<1>. The pressure in the chamber acting on a spring-pressed piston m<1> controls the electric fan motor A and surplus dust and air are returned by a pipe m' to a separator m<5> which delivers the dust to the supply hopper B and the air to the intake e of the fan, a valve r serving to proportion the amount of this air to the fresh air taken at the open end of the intake e. Coal dust is fed into the intake e in the direction of the air current from an anti-clogging feeder b through a positive-feed pressure-check valve v and similar valves are interposed between the auxiliary separator m<5> and main separator C and the hopper B. Instead of the vane wheel v, valves such as shown in Figs. 4, 5 and 6 may be used. The hopper B is supplied with coal dust from the separator C which receives dust-laden air from the mill G through the blower g<1> and pipe g and returns air to the mill by the pipe g<2>.
