Abstract

1537013 Torches SOC COMMERCIALE DES SOUDURES INDUSTRIELLES SOCSI SA 15 Feb 1977 06271/77 Heading F4T The control chamber 33 of a welding or brazing torch 27 is supplied with compressed air at 1, fuel gas at 2, and combustion supporting gas at 3, and the supply at 2 and 3 is controlled by a solenoid valve 14 connected to a thermocouple 35 via an amplifier 38 connected to a pump 28 for cooling the torch. The supply of filler material 9 is controlled by a pneumatic logic unit 8. In operation, current is supplied to pump 28, filler is fed to torch 27, amplifier 38 is energized and air, fuel gas, and comburant, are supplied at 1, 2, 3. Manual valves 13, 21, are opened, a timer 36 opens valve 14 and pneumatically actuated valves 15, 22, are opened so that comburant and fuel gas are supplied to the torch. Thermocouple 35 is heated to deenergize timer 36, pump 28 cools the torch and valve 14 is held open. If the air supply 1 varies between predetermined limits, valves 15, 22, are closed and the flame is extinguished. If the pressure of the fuel at 2 is incorrect, the flame decreases, and the thermocouple allows valve 14 to close, to thus shut-off the fuel supply. If the pressure of comburant 3 drops or rises, valve 22 is shut-off and the flame is extinguished. If the flame goes out accidentally, valve 14 closes and the fuel supply is cut-off. If the electric current to pump 28 is cut-off, amplifier 38 becomes inoperative and valve 14 is closed.
