Abstract
1536846 Oil-fired fluidized beds; boilers BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 6 April 1976 [9 April 1975] 14547/75 Headings F4B and F4A In a method of burning a vacuum residue (high viscocity waste oil) in a fluidized bed 1 of a boiler plant, the waste oil is introduced into the bed together with fluidizing air through a plurality of tubes 15 extending upwardly through a distributer plate arrangement, the excess air level in the bed being maintained at 5 to 20%. The bed material is a sulphur and metal retaining material such as a mixture of limestone and sand supplied from a hopper 9 through a tube 11. Air supplied to the tubes 15 from a plenum 18 causes waste oil supplied to each tube 15 from a common chamber 13 to climb up the inside wall and enter the bed through lateral holes 23 adjacent the blanked off upper end 16. The remainder of the fluidizing air required, together with fuel, e.g. propane, for bed start-up, are supplied to the bed through holes 24 in a tube 20 concentrically surrounding tube 15. Air enters each tube 20 through an inlet 22 and start up fuel through an inlet 21 which communicate with a common supply chamber 12. Boiler tubes 3 and tubes 25 for preheating part of the fluidizing air flow are immersed in the bed. The space 5 above the bed 1 has a row of inclined water tubes 7 extending thereacross and is surrounded by a water jacket 6. The combustion gases leaving the bed are cooled as they pass through a number of banks of heat exchange tubes 8.
