Abstract

1536591 Nozzles ANDERSON STRATHCLYDE Ltd 17 Feb 1977 [17 Feb 1976] 6242/76 Heading B2F [Also in Division El] In a nozzle, the bore 2 of which comprises a progressively contracting first section which blends smoothly into a second section 4 having an increased rate of contraction and terminating in an outwardly flared exit section, the second and exit sections 4, 5 are formed by an insert 6 located in the nozzle. Preferably the first section is of frusto-conical configuration having a convergence of 18‹, the second section is short in comparison with the first section and has a maximum convergence of 30‹, and the exit section is outwardly curved. The insert is formed of sintered tungsten carbide or a like hard material. The nozzle is intended for use in the jet excavation of sea bed trenches.
