Abstract

1536345 Ozone production UNION CARBIDE CORP 12 March 1976 [12 March 1975 (2)] 09927/76 Heading H5H In an ozone generating system or process, air is separated into oxygen-rich and nitrogen-rich fractions, the oxygen is ozonized, ozone is adsorbed from the ozonized oxygen, the deozonized, oxygen-rich, gas is fed back to the ozonizer, and the ozone is desorbed into the nitrogen-rich gas for use. Air is separated into oxygen- and nitrogen-rich fractions by a molecular sieve or cryogenic means. Preferably two beds of adsorbent are used, alternately being charged with ozone and being desorbed to give a continuous process. The best absorbent is silica gel, particle size > 100 Á. Other absorbents are mentioned. Figures are given illustrating typical operating conditions.
