Abstract
153,607. Patrix, R. Nov. 10, 1919, [Convention date]. Hoods, opening tops, and weather screens.-A frame for a collapsible hood comprises at each side a plurality of pairs of arms pivotally connected at their centres and arranged in parallel planes, the ends of adjacent arms of each set being connected by a pair of curved links so that when extended the pin of one link forms a limit stop for the other link to form a rigid horizontal structure. The two bars f, f<1>, Fig. 2, of each pair are pivoted at e with a resilient washer g between them. The bars of one cross are conneoted to the bars of the next by bent links h, h<1>, k, k'. When the system is extended the links take up the position shown in Fig. 3, the ends of the bars being rounded to permit their assuming the end to end position. A channelled frame d, Fig. 1, is thus formed at each side, one of the rear end members being mounted on a standard x, and one of the front ones connected to the wind-screen. The two frames are crossconnected by bows z which support the hood fabric a. Side panels b, b<1> are engaged between the members of the frame at the top, and in body guides 8 at the bottom. Panels c over the doors are hung on the frame and consist of two panes r, s, Fig. 5, of mica or the like. In fixing, the pane s is held behind the pane r by a flap t, but may be slid down in slots y, y<1> on to a guide in the door. A tab v serves to move the pane or to fix it to the roof of the hood when it is swung up. The hood frame may be attached to a fixed or folding rear covering.
