Abstract

1534606 Machinery guards JOSEPH NEWSOME & SONS Ltd 4 May 1977 [10 Aug 1976] 33315/76 Heading F2J A machinery guard comprises a piece of flexible material guided for movement along two opposite edges. The material may be flameproofed, knitted polyester fibre. As shown two pieces 13, 14 are guided for horizontal movement by rails 17, 18 and followers 19. The material may incorporate stiffeners. A latching mechanism 21 may be associated with the machine to prevent it from being started unless the guard is in place and to stop the machine when the guard is retracted or prevent the guard from being retracted until the machine is stopped. A spring loaded roller 24 aids retraction. The machinery may be a textile carding machine. The flexible material may instead be mounted for vertical movement. There may be a metal tunnel (27, Fig. 2, not shown) through which a person can pass to gain access to the machine whilst it is operating.
