As predetermined numbers of sheets are stacked to form counted batches, in response to a counter which counts the cycles of operation of a cutter which cuts a web into sheets, comblike dividers 48 from a magazine 46 are inserted through gaps in a fence 6 into the stack to divide it into batches, the dividers moving down as the table 7 is lowered, until the lowest divider abuts a crosshead 53 and is forced into an inclined position, creating a gap above the lowermost batch, into which gap an auxiliary support means 37, Figs. 5 and 7, is moved to support the remaining batches, while the table 7 then moves more rapidly downwards to bring the lowermost batch into alignment with an ejector which pushes it into a conveyer 30, the support 37 also moving downwards as the stack above it continues to form, and then being retracted and moving up to its initial position, the table 7 also then moving upwards to contact the next batch. As the support 37 enters the stack it carries with it blinds 99, one end of each of which is attached to a stationary bar 100, while the other end is wound on a sprung core 102 in a reel 101.
