Abstract

1533557 Adjusting response of linear fluid vibrators GRUMAG GERATE-UND MASCHINEN GmbH 11 Nov 1975 [12 Nov 1974] 46579/75 Heading F2S In a linear fluid vibrator, of the type where the piston 2 has a rod projecting from the cylinder 1 for attachment to the member to be vibrated, the mass of the cylinder can be adjusted to vary the response of the vibrator. The mass of the piston may be adjusted in the same way. The piston and cylinder may be made of light material, e.g. plastics, and different auxiliary masses 3, 4, 4a bolted on for different applications. The auxiliary mass may instead be an adjust. able volume of water or mercury supplied to an extension 4a<1> of the cylinder (and possibly also to the interior of the piston). Instead of fluid supplied to one side of a spring biased floating piston 4c<1> (as shown) fluids of different densities may be supplied, one to each side of the floating piston. The piston-cylinder vibrator operates in the usual way, compressed air supplied at 1b and exhausted at 1a causing the piston to reciprocate.
