Abstract

1533467 Seals GEORGE ANGUS & CO Ltd 24 June 1977 [9 July 1976] 28659/76 Heading F2B A sealing ring of nitrile rubber &c. for a piston rod 2 consists of a sleeve portion 1 and end flanges 6, 8 of which 8 is of greater radial extent than 6 and has a plane portion 11 to form a static seal when clamped between a housing 5 and plate 12. The static seal may be improved by the provision of beads on the plane portion. The bore of the ring, which may have annular projections to reduce the area in contact with the rod 2 and to retain lubricant, is countersunk at each end to receive anti-extrusion rings 7, 10, e.g. of nylon, and the flange 6 may be notched, &c. to allow access of pressure to the annular space 4. To facilitate assembly the sealing and anti-extrusion rings may be split and subsequently sealed by adhesive. A wiper seal 16 is held between the plate 12 and gland nut 13.
