Abstract
1533245 Food comminuting device SALTER HOUSEWARES Ltd 31 Oct 1975 [26 Feb 1975] 45363/75 Divided out of 1531753 Heading A4C A device for use in comminuting solid food bodies by rasping, grating or cutting, comprises, in combination, a bowl 15, a frame 10e adapted to engage and fit over the open mouth of the bowl, and, carried by the frame, a plurality of comminuting units 151, 152, 153 of different comminuting characteristics, which can selectively be brought into use such that the fragments of comminuted food material fall freely into the bowl, the frame providing a protective guard shielding at least the comminuting unit or units which is not or are not selectively rendered accessible for use, thereby reducing risk of accidental contact of the latter with the user of the device, the comminuting units being stationary and positionally non-adjustable relative to the frame, and the frame additionally provides a guide for guiding the food bodies into engagement with the particular comminuting unit required for use. The comminuting units are formed in a plate 150 fixed to the frame. A rotatably mounted upper cover member 155 shields the comminuting units and has an upstanding funnel part 156 allowing access of the food bodies to the comminuting unit in use. A plug-like food pad 158 is used to press the food body against the comminuting unit, the cover member being rotated back and forth by the user to comminate the food body. In a second embodiment the plate 150 is replaced by a plate of frusto-conical form with the comminuting units on the conical surface and the funnel part 156 is angled with respect to the cover member 155 to be perpendicular to the comminuting units. In a third embodiment the frame is formed as an annular member around the rim of the bowl with the comminuting units being formed on its inwards-facing surface, the food bodies being held against the units by a spring-biased food pad which is held in a horizontal tubular food holder supported rotatably within the annulus of the frame.
